oats

today i went to quaker church. we sat for an hour in silence. sometimes people say something, if they feel led. apparently the Spirit was out for coffee somewhere on Burnside because no one was led to do anything other than sit for an hour.

conclusion: i will probably never be a quaker.

meditation is biblical, but i would rather do it on my own, maybe in the woods somewhere.

maybe i should just buy a tent and live in the woods.

concerning an absence

Well,  i haven't been on xanga for about a month. Because I haven't had regular internet access. So sorry.

In other news, I moved to Portland.  It was an action hastily decided but heavily brooded over.

Things weren't working in Chicago. Actually, things aren't really working anywhere.  So is the summer.

Now I shall insert a poem and be done with it.

The Waking, by Theodore Roethke

I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
I learn by going where I have to go.

We think by feeling. What is there to know?
I hear my being dance from ear to ear.
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Of those so close besides me, which are you?
God bless the Ground! I shall walk softly there,
And learn by going where I have to go.

Light takes the Tree; but who can tell us how?
The lowly worm climbs up a winding stair;
I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.

Great Nature has another thing to do
To you and me; so take the lively air,
And, lovely, learn by going where to go.

This shaking keeps me steady. I should know.
What falls away is always. And is near.
I wake to sleep, and taking my waking slow.
I learn by going where I have to go.

note II:

i am not so much good at life and things.  i am already slipping into my old summer habits of overthinking and insomnia and general aloofness from  the world.

curse words.

also, i've run out of books to read whilst in portland.  this is horrible.

note:

it is my intention for this summer to read as much as is humanly possible, given the probability that i will have a job and also friends to distract me.

as of yet, i have read 4 books and am in the middle of my fifth.

that is all.
